Deciding between high speed internet providers can be very confusing. There are different speeds that are considered to be fast, but if you don’t know anything about internet speed, how will you know which speed to choose that suits your needs the best? That’s why it’s a great idea to get help from an internet resource that can explain everything to you in plain English. Once you know what kind of high speed internet will suit your needs the best, you can then start to compare providers.

Once you’ve decided what internet speed you would like, it’s time to compare ISP services. Different internet service providers can have many packages to choose from. For instance, one ISP may be cheaper than another, but in order to receive the cheaper rate, you may have to sign a contract for a certain number of months or even years. There may also be special offers available when you sign up, too, such as a free modem, cash back or the first month free. But one important point to consider is whether the ISP you would like to sign up with actually services your area. An easy way to discover this information is to use a trusted website that compares the different internet service providers.

The high speed internet providers in my area have been busy putting together deals and incentives to try and get my business. While I realize it’s a great time to upgrade from dialup, or in some people’s case to switch broadband providers, I am not sure how to go about making the most educated decision. One thing I wanted to make sure I wrapped my mind around was understanding the basics, like what is the difference between DSL, cable internet, satellite, and fiber optics. I also understand that making the right speed selection is important in order to be able to use the internet the way I envision using it. I also wanted to easily determine who the internet providers in my area were without making a lot of phone calls. Friends have told me that generally only a couple of providers actually offer service to a single location.

I found a resource that began by separating ISP’s by State. I was pleased to see that two of the top providers, AT&T and Verizon, had networks in my state. I was able to see what they had to offer, and there were links available to check availability right at my address. Within a few minutes I had a short list of available providers with which to compare packages. The resource I used also encouraged me to talk to some of my neighbors about their experiences with broadband, which I thought was a fabulous suggestion. I will do so this afternoon.
